The Interdisciplinary Laboratory for Research in Education (LIRE) implements research in education with an interdisciplinary approach involving researchers, teachers-researchers, teachers and contributors from local and regional institutions.
New Caledonia, like most countries, territories and communities in Oceania, is changing. It faces the interpenetration of multiple cultures and knowledge as well as the rapid intrusion of modern technologies impacting society. Research in education and health is identified as a major issue for New Caledonian society.
The topic of educational success in a multicultural context is at the core of the research policy, which is aimed to take up the following issues:
How can education promote individual and collective emancipation in order to contribute to raising the level of initial and continuous training of the populations in New Caledonia and Oceania?
While educational research is widely discussed in a variety of national and international contexts, the issue of educational success in the multicultural context of the Pacific is unique and not well addressed in the literature.
In most countries of Oceania, the uniqueness of the historical, environmental (colonial past), geographical (isolation of many territories, diversity of climates, insularity), political (diversity of institutional status), economic (inequalities of development) and social (multicultural societies environments) is a matter that needs to be questioned in educational contexts that are often changing and emancipated.
This is the case of New Caledonia.
The current stakes of Education and an increasingly strong integration into its regional environment naturally lead us to approach the issue of educational success in a multicultural context through the prism of three themes which, treated in a systemic way, favor the multiple and interdisciplinary approaches:
